Construction-backed residential design and drafting

Homeowners/ DIY’ers

I help homeowners turn ideas into clear, scaled drawings and site plans, with a ballpark project price and a final design that fits both the house and the budget. Questions like “Can this wall be removed?”“What size beam do I need?”, or “How much will this cost?” can be answered early in the design process.
Whether you’re planning to hire contractors with apples-to-apples bids or do the work yourself, you get plans that make sense to you, the code office, and the builder.

Contractors

Need to free up time from plan‑approval worries? Whether you’ve already been awarded a job and just need a design drafted for permit review, or you need a design/drafting quote to plug into your initial estimate, I can help.

Plans are drawn around your building methods—whether that means rafters instead of trusses, poured walls instead of block, or 5/8-inch sheathing with H-clips instead of tongue-and-groove—so the design matches the way you actually want to build.

We offer a range of services to meet the needs of every client. Have something else in mind? We'd be happy to work with you to create a custom quote.

  • Measured drawings of an existing home or building based on field verification. A clear record of the current layout and visible conditions, used as the foundation for remodeling, additions, estimating, and permit-ready plan development.

  • A complete residential plan set intended for building permit review and construction. Whether you are a DIY homeowner, a homeowner comparing contractor bids, or a contractor needing drawings to price and build from, this package is designed to move the project forward. A typical set can include floor plans, exterior elevations, roof and foundation or basement plans, building sections, framing details, window and door information, kitchen and bath cabinet layouts, electrical layouts, code and general notes, the energy-code compliance path, and a site plan as required. A planning-level project estimate is included during the design phase, giving you a ballpark price so you can make informed decisions about scope and budget as the plans develop. Two to three major design changes are included so the project can be shaped around your goals and budget before arriving at one final design.

  • Available as an add-on with an as-built or new design. Renderings help homeowners better visualize the finished project and can also help shape the final design before construction begins. They also help contractors explain and sell the job by showing customers what the project is expected to look like before work starts.

  • Additional drawing details and documents can be added beyond what is normally required for permit approval, such as further framing details, plumbing layouts, and other job-specific clarifications that make the plans more useful in the field.

About me

I learned how to build from the ground up, literally.
My dad was a union concrete finisher, and he started teaching me to finish concrete when I was still in high school—leaving me alone on garage floors by the time I was 16. From there I spent about 13 years working for a commercial and residential builder before starting my own construction company in 2018.

Over the years I’ve built foundations, wood and steel framing, and pre‑engineered steel building erection, building from countless sets of drawings and passing countless inspections—from rebar to final. That background is what I bring into Shick Design and Drafting: practical, code-aware plans drawn by someone who understands what it’s like to build them in the field.

Recently I decided to make drawing my sole focus, so I can spend my time helping homeowners and contractors get clear plans that actually work when it’s time to dig, pour, and frame.

Based in Brockway, serving Jefferson County and surrounding counties.
